The Kodak Ultra Color 400UC is a color negative film for professional users and was introduced in 2004. There was an additional ISO 100 variant of the film. It was presented as a good choice for fashion, advertising, travel and nature photography.
The film is designed for color photography and has a sensitivity of ISO 400, which is suitable for everyday use and is picked up by most light meters. Images with the film feature crisp colors with brilliant color reproduction.
The color film uses two Kodak technologies that are said to provide realistic colors and natural skin tones, Kodak’s Color Precision and T-Grain emulsion.
In addition, the film features a triple-coated blue emulsion to ensure consistent color and skin rendition, even when overexposed or underexposed.
Development of the Kodak Ultra Color 400UC
The Kodak Ultra Color 400UC is developed using the C-41 process, which is standardized and offered at professional photo labs. However, it is also possible to develop the film in your own lab.
After development, the images can either be created as prints or digitized for further processing and use in various formats.
Availability and alternatives
The Kodak Ultra Color 400UC was packaged for medium format and 35mm cameras. The 35mm film was available in cartridges with 36 frames. The roll film was available as 120 and 220 film. The 120 roll film can be used in most of the cameras.
Fresh material is no longer available. Expired material can of course still be changed, but the image quality as before is of course not guaranteed. Fortunately, there are some options for replacements for the Kodak Ultra Color 400UC.
Usable today in 35mm format would be the Kodak Ultramax 400*. An available alternative in 120 format is the Kodak Portra 400*.
