Kodak T-Max T400 CN

The Kodak T-Max T400 CN is a color negative film. It is a so-called chromogenic black-and-white film. This means that it is not processed in a black-and-white developer, but goes into a C-41 bath. In short, a C-41 color film without color.

The sensitivity of the Kodak T-Max T400 CN is specified as ISO 400. It features Kodak’s T-Grain technology, which is supposed to provide extremely fine grain and extremely high sharpness, at least that’s how Kodak’s advertising describes it.

Formats & Alternatives

Meanwhile, the T400 CN, which was available in 35mm, 120 and 4×5″ formats, is no longer in production. As an alternative, you can go for the Kodak BW400CN. If you need a chromogenic black and white film for your medium format camera, the only alternative currently available is the Ilford XP2 Super.

Development of Kodak T-Max T400 CN film

Unlike a normal black and white film, this film can be developed using the normal C-41 process. This development process is offered by most photo labs and is usually cheaper than black and white film development. However, it can also be developed at home with the appropriate chemistry. Here, however, there is not the wide latitude on affecting the look of the image as one has with black and white films.

Most photo labs make prints of the photos taken directly when the film is developed. This is usually included in the development price or offered as a non-selectable option.

Digitizing

To further process Kodak T-Max T400 CN film digitally, you can convert the film strips into digital form by scanning them. There are numerous ways to do this – both photo labs and home scanners can be used. After digitization, the photos are available in digital form and can be shared on social media or edited further.
