Kodak Photo fx

The Kodak Photo fx is a simple plastic camera for 35mm film. It dates back to the 1990s and has the same features as many cameras of this type from that period. One model with the same functions is the Kodak Star 275, but the controls are black, not yellow, like the housing.

The Photo fx is aimed at teenagers and children. It should serve as an introduction to the world of photography. A book with ideas for photo projects was enclosed with the plastic camera. The new price at that time was around 40 US dollars.

The 35mm camera comes with a fixed lens. The focal length of the lens is 33 mm. The maximum aperture is f/5.6. The distance setting of the lens is fixed. The camera does not have any setting options regarding exposure. Shutter speed and aperture are the same for each image.

The built-in flash provides enough light. The flash is powered by two AA batteries (eBay / Amazon*). It can be used without the batteries, if you are not using the flash.

Films for the Kodak Photo fx

The Kodak Photo fx requires 35mm films. 35mm films are still offered by various manufacturers. A color film for the 35mm camera would be the Kodak Gold 200*. A possible film for black and white images is the Kodak T-Max 100*.

The exposure area of the photo camera is 24 mm x 36 mm. On a normal film (135-36) fits about 36 pictures. The film in the camera must be rewound manually, since there is no automatic film transport. There is a thumbwheel on the back of the camera. After finishing the roll of film, you have to bring it to the development.

The color film is developed in the C-41 process. The C-41 process is offered by almost every photo lab. The development of a 35mm color film is possible at most drugstore chains in Germany, for example. The black and white film comes in a normal black and white developer and must not be processed in the C-41 process.

Of course, the camera is only available used. A working model, or an equivalent model of this kind, you will find very easily. There is little left of the original price of about 40 US dollars. One copy should not cost more than five Euros. If you buy a camera online, the shipping costs are usually higher than the purchase price.
