Impossible B&W Film for 600 Review

A look at the latest black and white film for the Polaroid 600 format from The Impossible Project

Impossible Color Film for 600 – Review

After the color film, we are now taking another look at the Impossible B&W Film for 600 in a small test.

First of all, some facts about the film. The instant film has been available since Black Friday 2013. The Impossible B&W Film for 600 replaces the PX 600 Silver Shade Cool.

It is designed for the Polaroid 600 format and can be used in all these cameras accordingly. Use in a Polaroid SX-70 is also possible, but because of the higher sensitivity, an ND filter must be placed in front of the film. A pack of the Impossible B&W Film for 600 contains eight pictures and a battery that supplies the camera with power.

After development, the film does not need to be handled specially (Dry Age Kit or similar). This is certainly one of the biggest new features.

I am quite satisfied with the results of the Impossible B&W Film for 600. Beautifully strong contrasts and clear black and white tones, as you would want a black and white image. There is no trace of sepia or the like.

The development time is significantly shorter, around 10 minutes, than with the color film, around 30 minutes, but still too long in my opinion. In my opinion, an instant picture should take a maximum of between 3 and 5 minutes for development, otherwise it is not an instant picture.

However, I am much more bothered by the film’s light sensitivity after ejection. Although the image can be protected quite well, e.g. with the additionally available Frog Tongue (a piece of foil that is placed over the image), but it is simply annoying and impractical. In addition, you cannot simply hand the film and a suitable camera to someone without instruction. Also, you cannot watch the picture develop, of course not very bad, but a pity. Nevertheless, the Impossible B&W Film for 600 remains a beautiful film.

The Impossible B&W Film for 600 is also available with black and silver frames.
