The Hanimex Praktica L is a SLR camera from the 1970s. It was sold under the Hanimex brand. It was produced in the GDR by VEB Pentacon. A functionally identical model is the Praktica L. You could buy the camera in Germany under this name.
The Hanimex Praktica L camera offers an interchangeable M42 thread lens, a widely used and cross-manufacturer format, providing numerous lens options. However, it lacks an autofocus function, so you have to focus manually.
The exposure settings are completely manual, with the photographer choosing the exposure time and aperture themselves. Available shutter speeds range from 1/1000 to 1 second, while aperture values vary depending on the lens used.
Another feature of this camera is the bulb mode, which allows the shutter to be kept open for an indefinite period of time. A hot shoe is also available to use external flash units.
Film selection for Hanimex Praktica L
Designed for the 35mm format, the Hanimex Praktica L is compatible with 35mm films that are still being produced. The development of the film material is also possible.
The Kodak Portra 400* is excellent for color images, while the Ilford Delta 100* is recommended for black and white images. Other film options come from brands like Adox, Rollei, Lomography and Fujifilm.
The camera also offers a tripod mount on the bottom and a cable release socket. Both properties are particularly useful when using bulb mode for long exposures. An external self-timer can also be connected through the cable release connector.
In terms of availability, the Hanimex Praktica L can now only be found on the used market, with the price varying depending on the condition and functionality of the device.
