The Fujifilm Neopan 400 is a highly regarded black-and-white film that features a medium sensitivity of ISO 400. With panchromatic sensitization, it allows for a wide range of light sensitivities, making it suitable for use in a variety of lighting conditions. In addition, its extended sensitivity means it can be pushed up to ISO 1600, according to the manufacturer, opening up the possibility for experimental and creative applications.

The Fujifilm Neopan 400 features high detail and a fine-grained texture, making it a preferred choice for a variety of applications, including portraiture, street photography and landscape photography. Its technical features have made it a versatile tool suitable for a wide range of shooting situations.

Availability

Availability of the Fujifilm Neopan 400 has been subject to considerable volatility in the past. Originally available in many regions of the world, it has since been withdrawn from sale in Germany, although it remained available in Japan as the Fujifilm Neopan Presto 400. It was reported that this was due to difficulties in manufacturing, although the exact causes remained unclear.

In 2012, Neopan 400 was reintroduced in Germany, but only in the 35mm version, whereas it had previously been available as medium format film. This change could be due to the decreasing demand for medium format film in an increasingly digitalized photography world. Production of the Fujifilm Neopan 400 was finally discontinued in March 2014. The reasons for the discontinuation are varied and likely include both economic and technological factors. Since then, the film has been unavailable on the new market, although it can occasionally be found on the used market or in leftover stock at photography stores.

Fortunately, there are still some alternatives for the film. For example, the Kodak T-Max 400* would be an option for black and white photos.

Film family

The Neopan family also includes the Neopan 100 Acros, Neopan 400 CN and Neopan 1600.
