Comparison of the Haking CF 35, Haking Quick and other models

The company W. Haking Enterprises Ltd, Haking for short, produced a wealth of different cameras for analogue photography for a long time. These cameras were aimed more at amateurs and price-conscious customers.

The cameras of the Hong Kong company were sold all over the world. The Haking and Halina brands were used. In addition, Haking cameras were also available under other brands. In Germany, for example, models were available from Foto Quelle under the Revue brand and from Photo Porst under the Carena brand.

In the USA, models were sold as Ansco. Analogue cameras from the Haking factory halls were also found under the Miranda brand.

This multitude of brands makes it rather confusing, not to mention the model names.

Most of the 35mm cameras from Haking are quite similar in their range of functions, especially when produced in the same period.

In this article I would like to concentrate on two models, the Haking Quick and the Haking CF 35.

Both 35mm cameras are very similar in appearance and feature set. They come with a fixed-focus 33 mm lens and a plastic body. There is no exposure meter. The exposure time is fixed. On the side of the lens on the front is a slider for setting the film speed. The values ISO 100/200, 400 and 1000 are available. Changing the values will probably result in a change of aperture.

A sliding door protects the lens from external influences. The built-in flash can be switched on if desired. The film transport is manual. The return transport is also done manually by a crank. A small window on the top of the plastic housing shows the number of photos taken.

Two AAA batteries (eBay / Amazon*) are needed for the flash. The cameras’ other functions do not require power.

Differences between the Haking Quick and Haking CF 35

The differences, as far as I can tell, in this case are mainly visual. The name imprints are different, of course. But the front of the two cameras is also slightly different. The plastic grip is slightly different and the design on the right side is also slightly different.

Other models of the Haking Quick

Similar models of the Haking Quick are the Carena 35F, Miranda FG-Z and Miranda Sharp Shooter. The Carena 35F was sold by the German photo retailer Photo Porst.

Other models of the Haking CF 35

Similar versions of the Haking CF 35 are the Revue 150 CF, Halina 260 and Halina 160.

The Revue 150 CF was offered by the mail-order company Foto Quelle in Nuremberg. Very different cameras from various manufacturers were sold under the Revue brand. The Revue differs from the CF 35 in the available ISO settings. ISO 100, 200 and 400 are available.

Other similar models

Another very similar model is the Braun Candy. Braun was a camera manufacturer from Nuremberg. Later, various inexpensive cameras were sold under the brand. Various models were sold under the Braun Candy series. The model that is very similar to the Haking cameras is the Braun Candy with “Candy” printed on the top and next to the lens. This model seems very similar in terms of functions. But the arrangement of the film speed is slightly different and the design of the front is also different.
