The Canon EOS 50E is an SLR camera. The 35mm camera was also available on the market under the names “Canon EOS Elan IIE” (America) and “EOS 55” (Japan). The SLR of the EOS series was introduced in 1995.
The lenses of the Canon EOS 50E can be exchanged. Lenses with an EF bayonet can be used. The focusing of the lens is done by a built-in autofocus system. After the EOS 5, it is the second camera with eye-controlled focus point. By looking through the viewfinder, one of the autofocus points is selected by an IR sensor. Without this function, this camera model existed as the “EOS 50”.
The Canon EOS 50E has a built-in light meter. It was designed for shooting with films with a sensitivity of ISO 6 to ISO 6400. The camera determines the correct sensitivity of the film via the DX code.
The correct exposure is measured through the lens. The exposure settings are automatically adjusted by the Canon EOS 50E if desired. The desired exposure time can be determined manually. The aperture is also freely selectable.
The camera comes with a bulb setting option. The shutter can remain open for a variable time and expose the film. There is a built-in flash for taking pictures in low light conditions, which ensures clear pictures. An external flash can be connected via hot shoe. The miniature camera has a self-timer. There is also a thread for a tripod.
The camera weighs 595 grams. The dimensions are 15.3 x 10.5 x 7.1 cm. The required power for the camera comes from a 6V 2CR5 battery (eBay / Amazon*).
Films for the Canon EOS 50E
In the Canon EOS 50E, 35mm films are exposed according to the operating instructions. 35mm films are still made by different producers. A possible film for color pictures is Agfaphoto Vista 400*, a possibility for b/w pictures is Ilford FP4 Plus*.
Colour negative film is developed in the C-41 development process. The C-41 films are offered by most photo labs. A development of a 35mm color film is possible e.g. at most drugstore chains in Germany.
Per film (135-36) usually 36 exposures are possible.
The Canon EOS 50E is only available on the used market. Depending on the condition and functionality the used price fluctuates.
