The Yashica-D is a two-lens reflex camera. It was built by Yashica from 1958 to 1974. A slightly revised version of the Yashica-D is the Yashica-635.
The camera comes with a fixed lens. The name of the capturing lens is "Yashinon 80mm f3.5". Early models came with a Yashikor 80mm f/3.5. Bay I filters can be attached in front of the lens. There is no autofocus function on the Yashica-D. Focus is set manually through the light well viewfinder. The closest focusing distance is specified as 100 cm for this lens.
Exposure is not metered by the camera. The use of an external light meter is therefore advisable. The Copal-MXV shutter allows shooting with an exposure time between 1/500 second and 1 second.
The camera has a Bulb setting. The use of an external flash is possible via the PC flash socket. The exposure time for shots with flash is 1/60 second.
The Yashica-D comes with a self-timer. There is also a connection for a cable release and threads for a tripod. The camera does not need power to take pictures.
Films for the Yashica-D
Medium format films are exposed in the Yashica-D. Production of 120 films has not ended and you can still find them. Nice 120 films for color and black and white images respectively are the Fujifilm PRO 400H* and the Ilford FP4 Plus*.
The exposure area of the Yashica-D is square (6x6). At this size, twelve images usually fit on the film.
