The Lomography Simple Use Half Frame (full name: Lomography Simple Use Reloadable Film Camera Half Frame) is a reusable half-frame viewfinder camera distributed by the Lomographic Society. It is part of the manufacturer's own Simple Use model series, which was designed as a reusable alternative to classic disposable cameras.
It was introduced on July 15, 2026. While conventional disposable cameras are usually discarded after use, this model is designed to be easily reloaded with new 35mm film after exposing the first roll. At launch, a variant with LomoChrome Classicolor 200 and Lomography Lady Grey 400 black-and-white film was presented.
Technical Design and Construction
The camera body is made entirely of plastic and is visually oriented toward the design of classic disposable cameras. The mechanical components are reduced to a minimum to ensure straightforward operation.
The optical unit consists of a wide-angle lens with a fixed focal length of 21 millimeters, which corresponds to a moderate wide-angle in half-frame format. The exposure parameters are fixed at a shutter speed of 1/120 second and an aperture of f/9.
Focusing is handled by a fixed-focus system that works from a distance of 0.6 meters to infinity. For shots in insufficient light, a manually activated flash is integrated. It draws its power from a replaceable AAA battery (eBay / Amazon*), which is included and can be changed when needed.
How the Half-Frame Format Works and Film Compatibility
The defining technical feature of the camera is its half-frame exposure (17 mm × 24 mm). Unlike the regular full-frame 35mm format (24 mm × 36 mm), the negative is halved, so shots are taken in portrait orientation by default when the camera is held horizontally. This design allows up to 72 individual frames to be exposed on a standard 36-exposure film cartridge.
Factory-shipped models already contain a pre-installed film designed for 40 exposures. After full exposure, the film is manually rewound via a rewind crank and can be removed for development.
The camera can then be reloaded with any common 35mm color negative, black-and-white, or slide film, allowing long-term use.
