The Lomography Simple Use Half Frame Lady Grey Edition is a reloadable compact camera in half-frame format. This variant of the Simple Use series from Lomography differs from the colored sister models by its in-house black-and-white film, Lady Grey ISO 400. It was introduced in July 2026.

Camera Design and Features

The mechanical framework of the Lady Grey Edition is the same as the other models in the Simple Use Half Frame series. The camera exposes an image frame of 17 mm × 24 mm, which corresponds to half the area of a standard 35mm negative.

The optical unit consists of a plastic lens with a fixed focal length of 21 millimeters. The exposure parameters are fixed and are f/9 for the aperture and 1/120 second for the shutter speed.

Due to the fixed-focus system, the depth of field ranges from 0.6 meters to infinity, so no manual focusing is required.

For dark environments, the camera has a built-in flash powered by an AAA battery (eBay / Amazon*). In contrast to the color variant, this edition is delivered without colored flash filters, to do justice to the classic black-and-white aesthetic.

Features of the Lady Grey ISO 400 Film

The film preinstalled in this edition is the Lomography Lady Grey ISO 400, a panchromatic black-and-white negative film. With a sensitivity of ISO 400, the film offers high flexibility in changing light conditions and is suitable for both outdoor shots and interiors with flash support.

The emulsion is characterized by moderate grain and a balanced gray-scale reproduction. The contrast is moderately strong, and the film responds forgivingly even to slight exposure errors.

Film Removal, Reloading, and Development

After the factory-loaded 40 exposures on the half-frame have been taken, the film can be rewound into the cartridge using a rewind crank. The camera back can be opened to remove the film and load the camera with a new film.

The removed Lady Grey film requires a classic black-and-white development process, which differs from the standardized C-41 color process. This is typically carried out in specialized laboratories or as part of chemical home development.

The camera is designed to be loaded with new films of format 135 (35 mm) after removing the original film. For example, you could use the Kodak Gold 200*. An ISO 400 film that fits would be the Kodak Ultramax 400*.
