Edixa MW 35E

  • Manufacturer Edixa
  • Type Viewfinder camera
  • Type of Film 35mm
  • Focal Length 38 mm
  • Max Aperture f/4
  • Focus Manual

The Edixa MW 35E presents itself as a compact viewfinder camera, ideal for 35mm film. With roots in Hong Kong, it was developed mainly for beginners and sporadic photographers. Interestingly, Haking offers a model that is identical in functions and is also called the Haking MW 35E.

Changing the lens is not possible with this unit. It is equipped with a fixed focal length, which has a focal length of 38 mm and a maximum aperture of f/4.

One has to take care of the focus adjustment manually as there is no autofocus. The shortest distance for the subject should be 100 cm. A zone focus function with gradations of 1 metre, 1.5 metres, 3 metres and infinity is integrated.

The Edixa MW 35E has an integrated metering cell for exposure metering. Supported ISO values range from 64 to 400. Thanks to the automatic exposure control, the camera regulates both exposure time and aperture itself, making manual adjustments unnecessary. The shutter speed remains constant, only the aperture varies.

A built-in flash, which provides bright low-light shots, can be activated via a front button.

Other features of the Edixa MW 35E include a cable release connection, a tripod thread and the possibility of attaching a camera strap.

To function, the camera requires two AA batteries (eBay / Amazon*). These batteries are widely available and rechargeable versions are also available. One set of batteries will last for a decent length of time.

Film material for the Edixa MW 35E

The Edixa MW 35E depends on photographic film, specifically 35mm film. These films are still accessible and can be developed without problems in most specialist laboratories.

Recommended 35mm films are the Kodak Ultramax 400* and the Ilford Delta 100*. Both films are known for their qualitative results in various scenarios. Other brands such as Lomography, Rollei, Fujifilm and Adox also offer suitable films.

The camera has an exposure range of 24mm x 36mm. With this size, 36 pictures usually fit on a standard film (135-36). Thanks to the motorised film transport, film is automatically advanced after each exposure and rewinding is also automatic.

A film transport indicator and a frame counter are conveniently placed on top of the camera.
