Brightin Star has launched a new manual wide-angle lens. Featuring a 14mm focal length and a constant f/2.8 aperture, this model is specifically designed for full-frame mirrorless cameras.
With this model, the manufacturer directly addresses the key requirements of architectural, landscape, and astrophotography. The new release is a fully manual lens.
Angle of View and Optical Design
The lens offers a wide angle of view of 116 degrees. In its presentation, Brightin Star places special emphasis on the design’s optical correction, which is intended to ensure virtually distortion-free imaging. Accurate rendering of straight edges at the image periphery is particularly important when photographing buildings or structured interiors, as it minimizes the time required for post-processing.
Internally, the lens features 13 elements arranged in nine groups. The use of two aspherical elements, five high-refractive-index elements, and three low-dispersion elements ensures uniform sharpness from the center to the edges of the frame.
To combat distracting flare and unwanted ghosting caused by direct sunlight, the glass surfaces feature a special multi-layer Nano IMC coating.
Applications and Aperture Mechanism
With a maximum aperture of f/2.8, the lens is well-suited for low-light shooting conditions. The manufacturer also promotes this prime lens for night-sky photography; the combination of a wide field of view and high light transmission makes it ideal for such shots.
The aperture mechanism utilizes ten blades. When stopped down, this creates ten-pointed starburst effects around bright light sources in the image. The minimum focusing distance of just 20 centimeters offers photographers great creative freedom in image composition. Subjects in the foreground can be focused on at very close range, while the wide angle of view ensures a broad capture of the background. Focusing is precise and free of play, controlled directly via the ring on the lens barrel.
Filter Solution and System Compatibility
The ability to use optical filters is a key factor for nature photography. Wide-angle lenses often feature a strongly protruding front element, making it impossible to attach screw-on filters directly.
However, Brightin Star has incorporated a detachable mount into this model. This serves not only as a lens hood but also accommodates standard circular filters with an 82mm diameter. This is a highly practical solution for using filters—such as neutral density (ND) filters—directly in the field without the need for bulky clip-on systems.
The lens is available in versions for four different lens mounts. It supports mirrorless camera systems using the Sony E-mount, Canon RF-mount, Nikon Z-mount, and the L-mount (used by Leica and Panasonic).
Price and Availability
The lens can be ordered directly from Brightin Star. The current price is $239.99; this will increase to $279.99 starting June 27, 2026.
