Thirtysi36 800

The Thirtysi36 800 is a color negative film that will be sold by the Singapore-based photo retailer 8storeytree in 2024. The film material is manufactured by Kodak, but the company is not directly involved in sales.

At its core, the cartridge contains the Kodak VISION3 500T, a film that was originally developed for professional cinema cameras and is normally only available on large film reels.

A notable feature of this film is its adaptation to artificial light (Tungsten). Unlike digital cameras, where the white balance can be flexibly adjusted, analog cameras require special films to produce realistic colors under artificial light.

Although the Thirtysi36 800 can also be used in daylight, this leads to color shifts without a suitable filter. An appropriate filter compensates for this, but at the same time reduces the sensitivity of the film.

Development of the Thirtysi36 800

The original VISION3 500T is typically processed using the ECN-2 development process. This is necessary because the film has a special coating (Remjet layer) that protects cinema cameras from wear. This layer must be removed during development, otherwise it will contaminate the development bath.

However, for the Thirtysi36 800, this layer has already been removed beforehand. This allows the film to be developed using the widely used C-41 process that most photo labs offer. This makes handling much easier and makes the film more accessible to photographers.

Applications and compatibility

The Thirtysi36 800 is designed for use in conventional 35mm cameras. The cartridge has a DX coding that enables automatic recognition by modern cameras.

Brands such as Minolta, Olympus or Nikon offer a variety of models that are suitable for this film. Owners of Leica or Konica cameras can also use the Thirtysi36 800 without any problems, as long as it is a 35mm camera.
