In 1985, the Yashica T AF-D, a high-end 35mm compact camera, came onto the market. It is the first model of the Yashica T series. The camera was built by Kyocera, which had taken over Yashica in the fall of 1983, and sold under the brand of the traditional Japanese company and its own brand (Kyocera T AF).
The compact camera series was characterized by the high-quality Carl Zeiss Tessar 35mm lenses with the legendary T* coating. These came from the renowned German lens manufacturer Carl Zeiss AG, which had a license agreement with Yashica that was concluded before the takeover by Kyocera.
Later, there were also models with a zoom lens. Nevertheless, the models with the sharp fixed focal length, nickname eagle eye, in a compact body are still the most popular today.
