The Rollei Digibase CR 200 (Pro) is a slide film. Not to be confused with the Digibase CN 200 a negative film.
The Digibase slide film contains the Aviphot Chrome 200 from Agfa Gevaert, a film for aerial photography. The film is based on the Agfa RSX 200 II. However, Rollei offers it for normal cameras as 35mm and medium format film. The sensitivity of the color film is specified as ISO 200.
If you leave it crossed in the C-41 process, the results can vary depending on the exposure and lighting conditions at the time of shooting. So you can get pictures with a striking green, cool orange tones, or lush green-yellow tones.
Photos with little color variation are possible. In most cases, cropped images with the CR 200 are characterized by strong grain and clear contrasts.
When developed as slide film in the E6 process, the film develops warm colors and a retro look. In contrast to cross processing, the grain is much less noticeable, but there is a lack of sharpness.
The E6 process is offered by most photo labs. As a rule, this type of development is somewhat more expensive than that of color negative films. Some labs offer direct framing of the slides for a slide projector.
The Digibase CR 200 is available as medium format and 35mm film. In addition to the 35mm film with 36 frames, it is also available by the meter. The medium format film is sold in a black can. The 35mm film was available in a can in a pack of two.
It should not be inserted into the camera in full sunlight because it is cast on a synthetic carrier. This would have the consequence that the first pictures would become unusable.
Sample photos
The following images were taken with the Olympus OM 2 at sunset. The film was developed using the E6 process. The slides were digitized using a Canoscan 9000F flatbed scanner (eBay / Amazon*).
