The Rollei Crossbird is a slide film. It is available as 35mm, medium format and baby medium format film (127). The 35mm film is also available in a preloaded disposable camera.
It is based on the Agfa RSX 200 and is manufactured by Agfa-Gevaert in Belgium for Rollei. The Crossbird has a sensitivity of ISO 200.
As the name suggests, cross development is recommended. With this, it is characterized by strong contrasts and a rather coarse grain. Depending on the light situation and shooting conditions, you get rich colors, fresh greens or honestly a cool look, but also strong yellows can happen with the “wrong” development. It’s best to experiment a bit and find out what the film can do in your workflow. Of course, it can also be developed as normal slide film in E6.
Care should be taken when loading the film into cameras, however, since it is cast on a synthetic film carrier, it should be loaded in the shade. The reason for this is the carrier, which transmits the light and thus makes the first images unusable.
Update
The Crossbird is now no longer manufactured for the 127 format. The other two formats are still available.
Sample photos
All sample photos were taken with the Lomo LC-A+ and then developed in C-41.
