The Polaroid Spirit Paul Masson is an instant camera from Polaroid. It was introduced in the 80s. The range of functions of the camera model can be found in the Polaroid Amigo 620. It was developed in cooperation with Paul Masson. Paul Masson Vineyards is a producer of alcohol from California. The company no longer produces wines. The logo is emblazoned on the top of the camera’s beige body.

The Polaroid Spirit Paul Masson is characterized by its ease of use. The vast majority of setting options found on other types of cameras have been omitted here. Because of this simple entry barrier, the camera can be operated by any user and is therefore suitable for many occasions. For example, it is great for parties and weddings. The camera is also a great travel companion on vacation.

The most important settings are preset. For example, the aperture and shutter speed cannot be changed by the user. The optics have a fixed focal length. Changing the lens is not provided for. The model does not feature a zoom function. The shortest distance for focusing is 60 cm. This minimum distance must be maintained for sharp images. This is possible with the close-up lens, which is pushed in front of the actual lens. Otherwise, the minimum distance is 120 cm.

A flash bar can be mounted on the camera in case of unfavorable lighting conditions. A self-timer has not been integrated.

Films for the Polaroid Spirit Paul Masson

Quite important for the Polaroid camera are the appropriate photo films. The American company Polaroid, the camera manufacturer, has stopped the production of films. Fresh films are produced again since 2010 and now also sold under the old brand name.

There is both a color film and a black and white film for the camera. The Polaroid Color Film for 600* is the film for color photos. To shoot black and white images, you can reach for the Polaroid B&W Film for 600*. In test reports, the films usually get a good rating.

One box is enough for eight photos. It must be ensured that the film material does not come into contact with light outside the camera. The film material should be stored in the dark and dried.

Since the development of the film format, a picture is 10.8 x 8.8 cm in size. The 600 cameras produce square images with a dimension of 7.7 by 7.7 cm. The remaining area of the image is white. Editions with colored frames are also offered.

Is it possible to use the Instax films? Clear answer, no! The films do not fit the camera.

Batteries

What type of battery is needed for the instant camera? The power source of the camera is a battery located in the film cassette. So when you replace the film, you also replace the battery at the same time. A second or additional battery is not necessary for the instant camera.

After long storage of the camera, e.g. in the cellar, the battery in the film cassette may have discharged by itself. Without sufficient power, the camera will then of course no longer function. To do this, simply remove the photo film and replace it with new film stock.

Tutorial for the Polaroid Spirit Paul Masson

How to take pictures with the instant camera? A little tutorial on how the Polaroid Spirit Paul Masson works.

The first step is to insert the instant film. To do this, first push the slider on the side forward so that the film door opens. The film cassette is inserted and the flap is closed again. The camera now directly removes the protective film of the film.

Now you can take pictures with the camera. To capture the desired subject on film, the shutter release located on the side of the housing must be pressed. The motor in the camera now ejects the instant image and development is started. After a short waiting period, the development process is complete. Then you can take a closer look at the final result.

Alternatives

If one does not find this model, one should resort to other options. Here, for example, the Polaroid OneStep Flash* and Polaroid Family* come to mind. One can find a similar range of features in these models. The Polaroid cameras are also for the 600 format.

One may want to reach for other instant cameras as an alternative. A good start are the LomoInstant Square* and LomoInstant*. Suitable film material will continue to be produced for both cameras.
