The Polaroid Spirit 600 Amtrak is an instant camera from Polaroid. The features of the model correspond to the Polaroid One Step Flash. It was created in a collaboration with Amtrak. As you can imagine, the camera is no longer manufactured new.

For this edition, the colors black and gray/silver were chosen. On the side there is the logo of Amtrak. Amtrak is the national railroad company of the USA for passenger transportation.

The Polaroid Spirit 600 Amtrak is extremely user-friendly. Many of the setting options available on other types of cameras have been eliminated. Its straightforwardness allows it to be used on many occasions. For example, a suitable event for camera use is a wedding or other celebration. The camera also cuts a fine figure when traveling.

The most important settings are already set. Aperture and shutter speed, for example, cannot be changed by the user. The instant camera is equipped with a pre-installed lens. This model cannot offer a zoom, which is common for smartphones. A distance of 120 cm to the subject is necessary for sharp pictures.

An integrated flash is of course also on hand in this model. The flash fires automatically when taking pictures. Due to the small aperture, the use of the flash is especially useful indoors.

Films for the Polaroid Spirit 600 Amtrak

Very important for the photo camera are the correct photo films. The manufacturer of the camera, Polaroid, has stopped production. In a factory in the Netherlands, films for the 600 format are produced again since 2010.

From the Internet you can get a color film and a black and white film. One option for color photos is the Polaroid Color Film for 600*. Monochrome images can be created with the Polaroid B&W Film for 600*. Both films cut a good figure in use.

Eight images can be made with the contents of one pack. Under no circumstances should the light-sensitive material come into contact with light. For the storage of the unexposed film material, one should look for a cool and dry place.

The size, 10.8 x 8.8 cm, of a picture has not changed over the decades. The captured image is square and 7.7 by 7.7 cm. The rest is filled by a white area. Are white frames too boring? Then there are also editions with colorful frames.

There is no compatibility of the cheap Instax films with the Polaroid Spirit 600 Amtrak.

Batteries

What batteries are required for the camera? With this type of camera, the power source is found in the cartridge containing the unexposed images. The disposable battery holds the energy necessary to power the camera’s technology, such as the motor, camera shutter, and flash. So with each film change, the battery is also replaced. No other batteries are necessary for the camera.

If the camera with film inside has not been used for a long period of time, this may cause the battery to self-discharge. Consequently, the camera will stop working. Replacing the old inserted film with new film with a new battery will solve this problem.

Tutorial for the Polaroid Spirit 600 Amtrak

How to take pictures with the instant camera? A clear guide to taking photos with the Polaroid camera.

The first step is to insert the film. To do this, push the small slider on the side forward. This opens the film door. Then insert the film cassette and close the flap again. The protective layer that previously protected the film material from light is now automatically removed by the camera.

Now you can take a picture with the camera. To take the picture, press the shutter release button on the side. The camera technology transports the image from the film cassette out of the camera and the development of the image starts. Within a few minutes, the development process is complete and you can view the final result.

Alternatives

If you can’t find the camera, you can consider other options. Possibilities would include the Polaroid Sun 600 LMS* and Polaroid Job Pro*. These models are the same in the feature set offered. They are also suitable for the 600 format.

Alternatives to the Polaroid cameras are also available. Outside the Polaroid world, you can find the Instax Wide 300* and LomoInstant Wide*, for example. The films for these models can be conveniently purchased online.
