The Polaroid McDonalds (Ronald Mcdonald) is an instant camera made by Polaroid. It was presented to the public in the 1980s. The features of the model coincide with the Polaroid OneStep 600. It was created in a cooperation with McDonald’s. As you can guess, no new copies are produced today.

It is the first 600 model with the branding of the fast food giant. Later, other collaborations followed. On this model, the case is black. Next to the links is emblazoned the logo with the golden “M”. Above the film edition is the signature of Ronald McDonald.

The Polaroid McDonalds (Ronald Mcdonald) stands out for its user-friendliness. Many of the setting options available on other types of cameras have been eliminated. Thanks to this low entry threshold, the camera can be used by anyone and is therefore suitable for many occasions. It is very suitable for parties and is also a lot of fun at weddings. It is also a great companion on vacation.

Changes to the exposure settings are not possible. Aperture and shutter speed, for example, cannot be changed by the user. The lens is fixed and cannot be changed. The model does not have a zoom function. Instead of pressing the zoom button, you have to get closer to the subject for close-ups. For sharp pictures, a minimum distance of 120 cm to the subject should be maintained.

For indoor shots, for example, a flash bar can be connected to the camera. Flash bars for this connection have been manufactured and sold for one-time use.

The search for a connection for a tripod thread on the camera is unsuccessful. Automatic release with self-timer is not possible.

Films for the Polaroid McDonalds (Ronald Mcdonald)

Of great importance to the camera are the corresponding photo films. The original camera manufacturer no longer produces film material. However, in the meantime, you can find suitable films on store shelves again, both online and offline.

There is a film available for color photos, but also a film for monochrome images. The right choice for color photos with the instant camera is the Polaroid Color Film for 600*. To shoot black and white images, you can reach for the Polaroid B&W Film for 600*. The Polaroid films also do well in test reports.

One box is enough for eight photos. The instant films are very sensitive to light. Contact with light before shooting should therefore be avoided. The conditions for good conditions for longer storage of unused material can be found in a cool place.

Following the standard, one image measures 10.8 x 8.8 cm. Just like the SX-70 cameras, the captured image is square and 7.7 by 7.7 cm. The remaining space is filled by the familiar frame around the Polaroid picture. To can also be found editions of Polaroid films with colored frames.

The films of the company Fujifilm can not be used with this model.

Batteries

What batteries do you need for the instant camera? In this type of camera, the battery is located in the film cassette. So changing the film also provides a new battery. There is no need for an additional battery.

If the camera with film inside has not been used for a long time, the battery may have discharged. Consequently, the camera will no longer work. To do this, simply remove the photo film and replace it with new film stock.

Photo guide for the Polaroid McDonalds (Ronald Mcdonald)

How to take instant pictures with the instant camera? A little guide on how the Polaroid McDonalds works.

First, the film is inserted. To do this, slide the slider forward on the side to open the film door. Now the film cassette is inserted. The flap can then be closed again. The film protecting the film is now removed by the motor in the camera.

Now it is possible to start taking pictures. Hold the camera on the subject and press the release button. The motor in the camera now ejects the instant image and development is started. After a short wait, the development process is complete. Then you can look at the final result.

Alternatives

If you can’t locate the camera, you can opt for alternatives. One obvious option would be the Polaroid OneStep 600, it is similar in features and it exposes the same film stock. Of course, it lacks the fast food chain logo.

You might also want to reach for other instant cameras as an alternative. Two potential choices are the Polaroid OneStep Express* and Polaroid Spirit 600*. The matching film stock is also still being manufactured.
