The Polaroid ADT is an instant camera from Polaroid. The model is based on the functions of the Polaroid One Step Flash Closeup. It was developed in cooperation with ADT Security Systems. The housing is black and blue. In addition, you can find the imprint “ADT Security Systems” and the logo “ADT” in white letters.

The Polaroid ADT stands out for its user-friendliness. Many of the setting options found on other types of cameras are not present. The ease of use allows it to be brought to bear on numerous occasions. For example, a good event to use the camera for is a wedding or other celebration. The camera is also a great travel companion on vacation.

The most important settings are already set. For example, the aperture and shutter speed cannot be changed by the user. The Polaroid instant camera comes with a fixed lens. A zoom, which is common for smartphones, is not integrated in this model. In order to zoom, you have to get closer to the subject. The minimum distance for focusing is 60 cm. This minimum distance has to be ensured for the clearest possible pictures.

The instant camera has a built-in flash. The flash fires automatically. The small aperture makes the use of the flash useful especially indoors.

Films for the Polaroid ADT

Of course, films are needed for the Polaroid ADT. The camera manufacturer, the Polaroid company from the USA, has ended film production. However, since 2010, a new company has been producing suitable film material again.

There is material for color photos and black and white images. The right choice for color photos with the instant camera is the Polaroid Color Film for 600*. If you prefer to take monochrome pictures, you can use the Polaroid B&W Film for 600*. How do the films perform in tests? Both films perform convincingly in many test situations.

One box of a film contains eight photos. The light-sensitive material must not come into contact with light under any circumstances. For storage of the unused material, one should find a place with cool and dark characteristics.

According to the specification of the standard, one picture is 10.8 x 8.8 cm. An area of 7.7 by 7.7 cm is reserved for the actual picture. The rest is filled by a white frame. Also available are editions of the Polaroid films with colorful frames.

Do Fujifilm instant films fit the instant camera? No, the Instax instant films cannot be used.

Batteries

What kind of batteries do you need for the camera? With this type of camera, you can find the battery in the cartridge with the unexposed pictures. The disposable battery contains the necessary energy for the camera technology with flash. So replacing the film also serves as a change of power source. Another battery is not required for the instant camera.

If the camera has been lying for a long time, e.g. in the basement, the battery in the film cassette may have discharged. Of course, due to the lack of sufficient power supply, the camera will no longer work. You can fix the problem without repair, simply by replacing the inserted film.

Tutorial for the Polaroid ADT

How to take pictures with the instant camera? A clear tutorial on how the Polaroid ADT works.

First, the film must be inserted. To open the camera, slide the slider on the side of the camera body. Now the cassette with the film material can be inserted. Then the flap can be closed again. Now the camera ejects the protective cover of the film.

Now you can start taking pictures. By pressing the release button on the side of the housing, the photo is taken. The motor inside the camera transports the image out of the film cassette. As it does so, it passes through two rollers, which distribute the chemistry for development over the image. After a few minutes, you have the finished image in your hand.

Other options

If you can’t find the camera, you can turn to alternatives. The Polaroid Spirit 600 CL* and Polaroid One600* would be other options. These models come with comparable functional features. They are also suitable for the 600 format.

A new angle is brought by other camera manufacturers. Two non-Polaroid instant cameras are the Diana Instant Square* and LomoInstant Square*. Suitable film stock is also still being produced for both cameras.
