The Olympus Trip AF 4000 is part of the Olympus Trip series of compact cameras. Its plastic body gives it user-friendly handling, making it an excellent choice for beginners and photography enthusiasts. The production of this camera took place in China.

An outstanding feature of this camera is the built-in lens with a focal length of 27 mm. Using the “Focus Free” mode eliminates the need for manual focusing and eliminates the need for a zoom function. A minimum distance of 0.8 meters from the object must be observed. A sliding cover protects the lens from damage.

Automatic adjustments to exposure, aperture and shutter speed are carried out by the camera, which detects the film sensitivity through the DX coding of the film inserted. If this coding is missing, the camera assumes a standard ISO sensitivity of 100.

The built-in flash, which is essential for the camera due to its limited light-capacity, fires automatically and cannot be turned off.

A carrying strap is included, and a tripod connector is located on the bottom of the camera.

The Japanese compact camera has a self-timer. There is also the option of imprinting the recording time on the images. There is an integrated clock with calendar for this purpose. The function can also be switched off.

Two AA batteries (eBay / Amazon*) supply the camera with energy, which are responsible for both the flash and the film transport.

Films for the Olympus Trip AF 4000

The Olympus Trip AF 4000 can still be used today, with used models available at a reasonable price. Of course, this requires the right films.

The camera is designed for 35mm film, and there is still a wide range of films available for it. Typically up to 36 shots can be taken per film, with the number tracked via a counter on the top of the camera. A small window on the back shows whether a film is inserted.

The Fujifilm Superia 400* is recommended for color photography, while the Kodak T-Max 400* is suitable for black and white photography. Both films are characterized by their flexibility and excellent image quality.

The film is automatically transported after each shot. When the film reaches the end, the camera automatically pulls it back into the cartridge, a function that can also be triggered manually using a button.
