Nolan C800T

The Nolan C800T is a color negative film for the 35mm format. The film material is sold by the Nolan brand, named after the filmmaker Christopher Nolan, which is probably owned by a Chinese supplier who makes the film available online. The film is produced by Kodak, a renowned manufacturer in the film industry.

The cartridge of the Nolan C800T contains the Kodak VISION3 500T, a cinema film that is normally offered on large spools for professional film productions.

A special feature of the VISION3 500T is its adaptation to artificial light (tungsten). While digital cameras offer a white balance, analog photography requires specially adjusted films to achieve precise colors under artificial light.

The Nolan C800T can also be used in daylight, but color shifts occur without the use of a suitable filter. However, this filter reduces the sensitivity of the film.

Development of the Nolan C800T

The ECN-2 development process is intended for the Kodak VISION3 500T because the film has a special layer (Remjet) that protects it in cinema cameras. This coating must be removed during development because it can contaminate the development bath.

The Nolan C800T has been modified, however: the Remjet layer has been removed so that the film can be easily developed in the widely used C-41 process. This adaptation makes it compatible with most photo labs and therefore particularly user-friendly.

Formats and cameras

The Nolan C800T is designed for use in commercially available 35mm cameras. Thanks to the DX coding in the cartridge, it can be used without any problems in cameras from manufacturers such as Minolta, Olympus, Nikon or Leica – provided they are models for the 35mm format.

For photographers who cannot find Nolan color film, there are alternative suppliers who have adapted the same Kodak film for photography needs.
