The Miranda MS-1N is a manual 35mm single-lens reflex (SLR) camera. It is designed for full manual control and uses the popular K-mount interchangeable lens mount.
Lens
The camera uses the K-mount, ensuring a wide range of compatible lenses. Focusing is done manually on the lens. A split-image indicator and a microprism ring are integrated into the viewfinder to assist focusing. The aperture is set directly on the lens’s aperture ring.
Exposure Settings
The exposure metering is center-weighted through the lens (TTL). It is activated by lightly pressing the shutter button. Three LEDs (+/O/-) in the viewfinder indicate overexposure, correct exposure, or underexposure. Correct exposure is achieved by manually selecting the shutter speed and aperture.
The mechanical metal focal plane shutter offers shutter speeds from 1 second to 1/2000 second, as well as a B setting for long exposures. The film speed is manually adjustable from ISO 25 to 1600.
Flash System
A center-contact hot shoe allows external flash units to be connected to the Miranda MS-1N. The flash sync speed is 1/125 second. Faster exposure times are not possible with flash.
Additional Features
Features include a 1/4-inch tripod thread, a frame counter that automatically resets when the back is opened, and a film advance lever that locks the shutter release when in the closed position. Film rewinding is manual.
Dimensions and Weight
The Miranda MS-1N’s body dimensions are 133 x 85 x 50 mm and it weighs 410 grams (without batteries and lens).
Power Supply
Two LR44/SR44 batteries (eBay / Amazon*) power the light meter and the LED display. Since the shutter is purely mechanical, the camera is fully functional even without batteries.
Film Recommendations
The camera uses standard 35mm film. The film speed (ISO 25–1600) must be set manually using the camera’s control dial according to the film loaded, as there is no DX code recognition.
A good color film for taking photos with the camera is Kodak Gold 200*. If you prefer to take black and white pictures with the Miranda MS-1N, you can use the Ilford Delta 100*.
