In recognition of the prestigious Japan Camera Grand Prix award for the Alpha 9*, Minolta Co., Ltd. has released the limited edition Minolta Alpha 9. With only one thousand produced, this camera is a special release.
It features a lightweight yet rugged construction, using magnesium alloy for the camera base and titanium for the top shell of the SLR camera body. Weighing just 825 grams and featuring a non-slip grip thanks to wet rubber, the Alpha 9Ti is a standout.
Lenses
The use of various lenses with different focal lengths, including zoom and fixed focal length lenses, is supported by lens interchangeability on the 35mm camera with Minolta A bayonet.
Autofocus
Advanced technology automatically adjusts the camera’s autofocus based on subject and lighting conditions to ensure subjects are always in focus.
The built-in LED AF illuminator is a convenient feature that automatically activates in difficult low-light or low-contrast situations, assisting autofocus with additional light. Various AF control options, including single, continuous, and automatic AF modes, provide flexibility for different shooting situations and individual preferences.
Exposure meter in 35mm photo cameras
A built-in exposure meter is found in the 35mm photo camera, which is suitable for film sensitivities from ISO 6 to ISO 6400. If the film cartridge has a DX code, the film speed can be automatically detected in the range of ISO 25 to 5000.
Exposure modes
Various exposure modes are available on the camera. In P (Program Automatic) mode, the shutter speed and aperture are set automatically.
In A (aperture priority) mode, the aperture can be selected manually while the camera adjusts the shutter speed automatically. In S (Shutter Priority) mode, on the other hand, you can select the shutter speed manually and the camera adjusts the aperture accordingly.
In M (Manual) mode, you have full control over both shutter speed and aperture. The camera’s metering system helps you get the right exposure and you can adjust the settings in small increments.
The available apertures depend on your lens. You can select a shutter speed between 1/12000 second and 30 seconds, and there’s also a Bulb mode for variable long exposures. Exposure compensation of +-2 stops (1/3 EV) or +-3 (1/2 EV) can be used in the automatic modes.
The SLR camera with flash and other functions
The SLR camera is equipped with a flash that has a guide number of 12 at ISO 100. To recharge, the flash takes about 2.5 seconds. Several flash modes are available, including fill flash and red-eye reduction mode.
The Minolta Alpha 9Ti has a built-in self-timer with a lead time of two or ten seconds, as well as a multiple exposure mode. There is also a tripod thread on the bottom of the body.
Power supply with CR123A batteries
The photo camera is powered by two CR123A batteries (eBay / Amazon*), which are easily available online. A single battery charge will last for about 550 pictures, even if the flash is used for half of the pictures.
Minolta Alpha 9Ti: Suitable films
35mm film is required for use with the Minolta Alpha 9Ti. The 35mm format remains popular with many users because it is compatible with many cameras and is easy to use. For this reason, some vendors produce this format.
The Kodak Gold 200* is a popular film for the Minolta Alpha 9Ti and is chosen by photographers who want to capture beautiful color images. The Ilford Delta 100*, on the other hand, is preferred by black and white photography enthusiasts.
The 35mm film for this camera is 24mm x 36mm and can hold up to 36 frames. The camera has a motorized film advance that allows the film to advance after each frame. With an image capture speed of about 5.5 frames per second, it can effectively capture fast-moving scenes.
Accessories
There were a variety of accessories available for the Minolta Alpha 9Ti. These included a data back that could store shooting settings on a memory card. Also available was a back with a built-in calendar, such as the Quartz Date back, which could imprint the shooting date for each image.
Additionally, there was a vertical grip available for the SLR.
