As an evolution of the popular compact camera, the Konica K88 II was introduced. It dates from the 1990s.
The camera was manufactured in China for Konica. Functionally identical models were offered under the name Konica EU-mini II.
The most significant improvement of the Konica K88 II compared to its predecessor was the addition of a mode that reduces red-eye effect when using the flash.
The scope of delivery for the camera included a wrist strap, a suitable battery, and a roll of Konica film.
Lens
The Konica K88 II features a permanently installed Konica 28mm f/6.7 lens. The optical construction of this lens consists of three elements in three groups.
As it is a fixed-focus lens, manual focusing is not required. The camera is designed for shooting distances from approximately 0.9 meters to infinity.
Exposure Settings
The Konica K88 II offers automatic exposure control in three stages. The camera fully controls the exposure as manual settings are not provided. Instead of a traditional light meter, an automatic system ensures the correct exposure.
Flash System
An integrated electronic flash is automatically activated by the camera in low light conditions. A red-eye reduction mode is present on this model. The flash cannot be turned off.
Connections for external flash units or manual flash modes have been omitted on this model.
Battery
Two AAA batteries (eBay / Amazon*) are required to operate the Konica K88 II.
Film Recommendations for the Konica Camera
The Konica K88 II is designed for the use of 35mm small-format films. Although Konica no longer produces films itself, there are other manufacturers that offer films for this format.
Thanks to a DX sensor, the camera automatically sets the film sensitivity to ISO 100, 200, or 400. For optimal results, using films within this sensitivity range is recommended.
For outdoor shots in bright light, films with ISO 100 (Kodak Ektar 100*) are suitable, while for indoor shots or poor lighting conditions, films with ISO 400 (Kodak Ultramax 400*) are better suited. The number of images per roll depends on the film length, with 24 or 36 exposures being common.
A built-in motor in the Konica K88 II automatically advances the film after each shot, rewinding one frame per second. The display on the top shows the number of photos already taken. After the last frame, the film is automatically rewound by the camera.
