As a further development of the popular compact camera, Konica presented the EU-mini II. The camera was manufactured for Konica in China. A variant of the EU-mini II with an “Auto-Date” function also allowed the shooting date to be exposed directly onto the photos.
The main innovation of the Konica EU-mini II compared to its predecessor was the integration of a mode to reduce the red-eye effect in flash photography.
Lens
The Konica EU-mini II is equipped with a permanently integrated Konica 28mm f/6.7 lens. The optical construction of this lens comprises three lenses in three groups.
Thanks to the fixed-focus lens, there is no need for manual focusing. The camera is optimally set for a shooting range from approximately 0.9 meters to infinity.
Exposure Settings
The Konica EU-mini II features automatic three-stage exposure control. The camera takes full control of the exposure, as manual intervention is not provided. Instead of a conventional light meter, an automatic system ensures correct exposure.
Flash System
A built-in electronic flash is automatically activated by the camera in insufficient lighting conditions. When using ISO 100/200 films, the flash range is between 0.9 and 2.3 meters, while it increases to 0.9 to 4.6 meters with ISO 400 films. The flash recharge time is approximately 5 seconds.
External flash connections or manual flash modes have been omitted in this model.
The flash is designed to prevent red eyes in pictures that can occur when using the flash.
Battery
Two AAA batteries (eBay / Amazon*) are required to operate the Konica EU-mini II. These batteries are very easy to find.
Film Recommendations for the Konica
The Konica EU-mini II is designed for the use of 35mm small format films. Although Konica no longer produces films itself, other manufacturers offer suitable films for this format.
Thanks to the DX sensor, the camera automatically detects the film sensitivity and adjusts to ISO 100, 200, or 400. For optimal image results, the use of films within this sensitivity range is recommended.
For outdoor shots in daylight, films with ISO 100 (Kodak Ektar 100*) are a good choice, whereas for indoor shots or in low light conditions, films with ISO 400 (Kodak Ultramax 400*) are better suited.
An LCD display on the top shows the number of pictures already taken.
A built-in motor in the Konica EU-mini II ensures automatic film transport after each shot, advancing one frame per second. After the last picture, the camera automatically rewinds the film.
