The Konica C35 EF is a compact 35mm camera. It was first introduced in 1975 and produced by Konishiroku Shashin Kōgyō K.K., Konica for short, in Japan. It was nicknamed “Pikkari” there. The two abbreviations in its name stand for “Compact 35mm” (C35) and “Electronic Flash” (EF).
The Konica C35 EF is designed for 35mm format (eBay / Amazon*) and comes with a fixed 38mm lens (Konica Hexanon 38mm F2.8 Japan). The maximum aperture is f2.8, and it focuses manually in four steps (1 meter, 1.5 meters, 3 meters, and infinity).
The built-in light meter supports film with sensitivity from ISO 25 to ISO 400, and the exposure is set by the camera itself. In low light conditions, the built-in flash can be switched on. To do this, the arrow on the front of the camera must be pressed down.
The flash is powered by two AA batteries (eBay / Amazon*). The light meter actually requires a 1.3V PX675 mercury battery, but a 1.5V coin cell should probably work as well.
The Konica C35 EF has a thread for a tripod and a self-timer. However, the self-timer is only available on models built after 1977.
Recommended films for the camera
For creating color images with this camera, Fujifilm Superia 400* is recommended, while Kodak T-Max 400* is recommended for black-and-white shooting. Both films have proven to be solid and reliable in test reports. Of course, there are a variety of other films that are suitable for this camera.
However, it is important to note that the development process of the films is of crucial importance for the final result. Therefore, it is advisable to have the films developed in a professional photo lab to get the best possible results. Alternatively, you can familiarize yourself with film development at home by purchasing the necessary equipment and chemicals and performing the process yourself.
