The Kodak KC 50 is a snapshot camera. It was presented by Kodak in the 1990s and was built in China. The housing of the camera is black and made of plastic. It is aimed at beginners and snapshot photographers. An almost identical model with data back was sold under the name “Kodak KC 55“.
The camera comes with a fixed lens. 29 mm is the focal length of the lens. The maximum aperture of the camera is f/5.6. The lens is fixed, so there is no need to focus. The closest focusing distance of the lens is 1.2 m.
The 35mm camera is equipped with a built-in light meter. It can be used with films with a sensitivity of ISO 100, ISO 200 or ISO 400. The film speed is read out via the DX code on the film cartridge. The Kodak KC 50 can automatically set the aperture and exposure time. There is no possibility to influence the exposure.
If the lighting is poor, the built-in flash can be used. According to the instructions, the power of the flash ranges from 1.2 meters to 2.8 meters with a film speed of ISO 100. The flash charging time is about five seconds. An LED on the back indicates the status. The flash can also be switched off if desired. There is a function to avoid red eyes in the pictures.
According to the operating instructions, the camera weighs 170 grams. The dimensions are 12 x 6.5 x 4.3 cm. Power is supplied by two AA batteries (eBay / Amazon*). These also supply the motor for the film transport with power.
films for the Kodak KC 50
In the Kodak KC 50 cartridges are exposed with 35mm film. 35mm film is still produced today and can be developed in most laboratories. A recommendation for color images is the Kodak Gold 200*. If you want to stay monochrome, the Ilford HP5* is not bad.
The color film is a color negative film and is developed in the C-41 process. The C-41 process is standardized and is offered by most development laboratories. Most drugstore chains in Germany offer the development of color films. The black-and-white film, on the other hand, has to go into a black-and-white developer. This type of development is also offered by most professional photo labs.
