In 2022, the Kodak i60 was introduced, a camera for 35mm film. This camera is manufactured in China by the Sino Promise Group, which has acquired the license for the brand name “Kodak” and produces a range of 35mm cameras under this label. Distribution in certain markets is handled by Hong Kong-based RETO Production Ltd.
The camera is available in two color variants, purple-black and yellow-black. In terms of design, it is based on the Kodak Instamatic 100.
The i60 is equipped with a fixed lens. With a focal length of 31 mm, the largest aperture is f/10. The lens consists of a plastic lens element.
The focus of the lens is fixed and cannot be changed. To avoid blurring, a minimum distance of 100 cm from the subject should be maintained.
The Kodak i60 does not have a light meter. The soul exposure meter on the front is just an imprint.
The exposure settings are preset: Aperture is fixed at f/10 and shutter speed at 1/125 second. A bulb mode is not provided for this camera.
Sufficient illumination is provided by the built-in flash. The intensity of the flash cannot be adjusted, but the flash can be turned on and off.
The camera does not have a tripod socket or a self-timer. There is also no double exposure function.
The dimensions of the i60 are 11.2 x 6.4 x 4.6 cm and it weighs 144 grams according to the manufacturer. An AA battery (eBay / Amazon*) is required to operate the flash, but it is not included.
Films for the Kodak i60
The camera also does not come with the appropriate films. The i60 is designed for use with 35mm film. Although digital cameras are now widely available, the 35mm format remains an essential part of photography, and several manufacturers continue to produce film for this format.
For color shooting with the i60, Kodak Ultramax 400* is recommended, while Kodak TRI-X 400* is recommended for black-and-white shooting. In tests, both films show good results in typical applications.
However, there are many other films that can be used with this camera, including those from other manufacturers. For example, Lomography, Foma, Rollei and Fujifilm offer suitable 35mm films for the Kodak i60.
Color films are typically developed using the C-41 development process offered by all photo labs that develop 35mm film. Black and white films, on the other hand, must be processed in a special black and white developer.
