The Kodak Ektachrome 100D is a slide film from Kodak. It is still produced and is intended for the production of motion pictures.
Background to the brand
Kodak Ektachrome is a brand of slide films (color reversal films) known for their vibrant colors, fine grain and sharpness. It was originally introduced by Kodak in 1946 and was popular with professional photographers and filmmakers. Production was discontinued in 2012, but resumed in 2017 due to continued demand for analog films.
Information and areas of application
The Kodak Ektachrome 100D is a color reversal film with a sensitivity of ISO 100. It is characterized by its fine grain, high sharpness and neutral grayscale. Its color reproduction is vivid and realistic, especially skin tones are reproduced naturally.
The film is particularly suitable for outdoor shots in daylight or well-lit studio shots where moderate color saturation is desired.
Formats and cameras
The Kodak Ektachrome 100D is available in various formats for film production, including 35 mm, 16 mm and Super 8. The material is coded with the number 5294 for 35 mm. The product code for the 16 mm format is 7294.
The 35 mm material can be used for photography. However, this is only sold by the meter and is not included in the corresponding film cartridges. It is also difficult for private individuals to obtain it from Kodak or only in larger quantities.
Development process and digitization of the negatives
The Kodak Ektachrome 100D must be developed using the E-6 process. This process is more complex than developing color negative films and requires special chemicals and equipment.
After development, the slides can be viewed or projected directly. For digitization, the slides can be scanned to create high-resolution digital images.
Storage of the film material
Unopened films should be stored at 13°C or lower. For longer storage, a temperature of -18°C or lower is recommended. After exposure, the film should be developed immediately.
Alternative
If you want to use the slide film in your camera, you can use Kodak Ektachrome E100. The 35 mm material is also packaged in 35 mm cartridges by some suppliers. One supplier is Flic Film from Canada.
