Hitchcock Double-X 5222 is a black and white film. It is sold under the Hitchcock brand. However, the film material in the cartridge comes from Kodak. The traditional company from the USA produces it as Eastman Double-X 5222.

The material is actually intended for the production of motion pictures and was used, for example, for shots in Kill Bill and James Bond Casino Royal.

However, it is also possible to use the film for photography. It belongs to the genre of panchromatic films. The nominal sensitivity of the black and white film is ISO 250, but it can be set higher. Thus, it can be pushed. However, you should also adjust the development accordingly.

Developing the film

The development of the Hitchcock Double-X 5222 must be done in photochemistry. The development can be done in a photo lab or you can develop the film yourself with the appropriate photochemistry. Afterwards, the developed film strips can be scanned. It is also possible, quite analogously, to make photographic prints from the negatives.

When choosing a developer, you have several options. Which developer to choose depends primarily on the desired result and how the film is exposed. Of course, you don’t necessarily have to go for a developer from Kodak, Ilford and co. can also give great results with this black and white film.

The Eastman Double-X 5222 is available in 35 mm and 16 mm formats. The Hitchcock Double-X 5222 is only available for 35mm cameras. It comes in regular 35mm cartridges and can theoretically be used in any camera for that format. If the camera only has a setting for ISO 200, you should just choose that value.

Normally 36 images fit on a roll of film. Depending on what format the camera is exposing, the number may be higher or lower.

The film is sold mainly in Asia. There, it can be found in the virtual storefronts of popular online platforms, such as Lazada or Shopee. The price of a roll of film is about 6 euros.

An alternative to the Hitchcock Double-X 5222 is the Kodak TRI-X 400*. It is one of the most successful films made by the American company. Many legendary shots were taken on this film stock. Another alternative is the Ilford HP5*. Both films are available for 35mm cameras.
