The Haking Vision I E is a compact snapshot camera, ideal for unprepared shots. It was produced by the Hong Kong-based company Haking. The model is very similar to the Haking Vision I, but comes with the imprint “sensor”, comes with a film transport motor and a lens with a smaller aperture (f/8 instead of f/5.6).

Possibilities and special features of the camera

The 35 mm lens is permanently installed and offers a focal length of 33 mm, paired with a maximum aperture of f/8. You will look in vain for an autofocus system, instead it is a focus-free model in which the focus distance is already preset. An integrated sliding door protects the lens from damage and dirt.

The exposure adjustment is not adjustable on this model, although the shutter speed is probably around 1/125 second.

Despite the lack of extras such as a “red-eye reduction” mode, a tripod connection or a self-timer, the camera impresses with its integrated flash. You can also attach a carrying strap for easy portability.

The camera requires two AA batteries (eBay / Amazon*) for operation, although the use of rechargeable versions is recommended.

Available films for the Haking Vision I E

According to the user manual, the Haking Vision 1 E works with 35 mm films, which can still be obtained and processed from various manufacturers.

Recommended film choices for this compact camera include the Kodak Gold 200* for color images and the Ilford Delta 100* for monochrome images. In addition, brands such as Lomography, Fujifilm, Rollei, Adox and Foma have suitable films on offer.

Many labs offer the processing of these films, with the added option of ordering prints directly from the negatives, or of digitizing the negatives and using them as digital files.

The film is transported further manually after each exposure by means of a motor. A counter on the top shows the number of frames already taken, while a window on the back shows the film currently loaded.

When the film is fully exposed, it is turned back into its cassette by a crank, not by the motor. Only after this process should the camera be opened to remove the film for development. Otherwise, light could enter and damage the film.
