The Fujifilm Velvia 50, a renowned slide film in the photography industry, has stood for quality and precision in colour reproduction for years. After a 15-year production period, it was briefly discontinued in 2005 due to costly production processes, only to be reintroduced almost identically two years later due to high demand. The recent addition of “50” to its name, also known as RVP 50, signals its continued presence in the industry, with “RVP” standing for “Velvia for Professionals”.

The strengths of the Velvia 50 lie in its fine-grained texture and high level of detail, crisp sharpness and its ability to render colours in an intense and full manner. These qualities have made it a preferred medium for nature and landscape photography. The film is available in a variety of formats, including 35mm and medium format, although production has ceased as sheet film in sizes such as 4×5″ and 8×10″. In 2013, the packaging of Velvia 50, along with other Fujifilm films, underwent a redesign to keep pace with modern market standards.

It is worth noting that Velvia 50 is not only used in photography, but also in the film industry. Various manufacturers offer the slide film for Super 8 cameras, including under the name “Cinevia Super 8” from GK-Film GmbH. Wittner Kinotechnik also had the film in its range, which underlines its versatility and adaptability to different fields of application.
