The Fujifilm Instax Mini 9 Toy Story 4 is an instant camera. It is a special edition of the normal Instax Mini 9. It was introduced at the cinema release of Toy Story 4 in July 2019. There was also a matching edition of the instant film.
Design
It’s mainly red and has yellow accents around the lens and shutter button. The housing is made of plastic.
On the front you can see the lettering “Toy Story 4” in white and blue. The alien from Toy Story is pictured below on the left. On the back there is a larger picture of Woody, Buzz, Jessie and Rex. At the top right it says “Disney Pixar” and below it again “Toy Story 4”.
Features of the Instax Mini 9
The Instax Mini 9 is extremely easy to use: pressing a button next to the lens brings it to life, and gently pressing the lens puts it back into sleep mode.
Five different shooting modes (Indoor, Cloudy, Sunny, Very Sunny, Hi-Key) adapt to lighting conditions, with a small LED indicating the recommended mode. The Hi-Key mode, which is activated by turning the lens, ensures particularly delicate, bright images.
The viewfinder is not directly connected to the lens and only offers a rough preview of the subject. An operating manual is generally unnecessary for the Instax Mini 9.
The Fujifilm Instax Mini 9 has a built-in flash that fires automatically with every photo and has a range of up to 2.7 m. It is not possible to turn off the flash.
The image section is suitable for everyday use and is ideal for portraits and selfies. There is no zoom. A small mirror next to the lens makes it easier to take self-portraits.
A close-up lens ensures close-ups from a distance of 30 cm to the subject. You shouldn’t rely solely on the viewfinder, as it can differ slightly from the actual image section when taking close-up photos.
The Instax Mini 9 does not have a tripod, remote shutter release or self-timer.
On the back, a frame counter provides information about the remaining shots. There is an eyelet on the sides for attaching a loop or camera strap.
Films for the instant camera
The Fujifilm Instax Mini 9 Toy Story 4 is tailored to the Instax Mini format. Fujifilm itself produces the instant film for this format.
It is the smallest instant photo format, half the size of the Instax Wide format. One image measures 8.6 x 5.4 cm, with the actual photo measuring 62 x 46 mm. The rest is the frame around the picture. A debit card is roughly the size of an Instax Mini picture.
The instant photos are in a cassette that is inserted into the camera. One cassette is enough for ten pictures. If the frame counter shows zero, the cassette must be changed. The cost per image is approximately 70 cents.
Once ejected from the camera, development only takes a few minutes. The images of the color film (Instax Mini Film*) impress with their high-contrast colors. The white frame around the pictures can be customized with pens and stickers.
The Instax Mini Monochrome* is available for black and white images. The Instax Mini format is particularly suitable for weddings and scrapbooking.
