The Dubblefilm Apollo 120 is a color negative film distributed by the Dubblefilm brand and will be available in April 2023 for about 16 euros. Although the original film stock is not produced by Dubblefilm itself, the brand treats it to turn the film into an effects film.
The film’s ISO is 200, which is stated on the spec sheet, and it is optimized for use with medium format cameras. What makes it special is its ability to alter hues rather than provide correct colors. Thus, according to the manufacturer, it produces images with deep shadows and brilliant highlights,n with underexposure enhancing the effects and overexposure softening them.
Previously, such effect films were only available for 35mm format. However, Dubblefilm has developed a process to achieve similar effects with medium format cameras.
Development of Dubblefilm Apollo 120
To develop photos taken with Dubblefilm Apollo 120, the C-41 development process is required. This is offered as a standardized service by most photo labs, including major drugstore chains in Germany. After development, the negatives can either be digitized or photographic prints can be made in a variety of sizes.
Digitization
Digitization offers numerous options for using the files in printed form or on social media platforms. There is also the option to convert negatives to digital form through a scanner.
Formats
The Dubblefilm Apollo 120 is optimized for medium format cameras, and depending on the image format selected, the number of images that can fit on a roll of film varies. Typically, 12 images fit on a roll of film. Compatible cameras are available from a variety of manufacturers including Rollei, Mamiya, Yashica, Lomography and many more. Nice cameras are the Diana F+ or the Mamiya 645.
The film is not compatible with 35mm cameras.
