The Cyberpunk 800T is a special color negative film that is sold under the Cyberpunk brand. The film material comes from Kodak, a renowned manufacturer that originally developed the Kodak VISION3 500T for cinema film production. Cyberpunk is responsible for marketing and distribution, with the supplier presumably operating from China and offering the product mainly online.
Origin and special features of the film
Inside the cartridge is the Kodak VISION3 500T, a film that is specially designed for artificial light (tungsten). With analog cameras, unlike digital models, there is no way to flexibly adjust the white balance. It is therefore crucial to use a suitable film like this when shooting under artificial light in order to achieve color-fast results.
Of course, the Cyberpunk 800T can also be used in daylight. However, this leads to color deviations without an additional filter. A corresponding correction filter can compensate for these shifts, but reduces the film’s sensitivity to light.
Development options for the Cyberpunk 800T
The Kodak VISION3 500T is usually developed using the ECN-2 process, as a special Remjet coating on the film ensures use in cinema cameras. This layer protects the film from wear, but must be removed during development.
In the Cyberpunk 800T, this coating was eliminated in advance so that it can be developed using the widely used C-41 process. This means that the film can be easily processed in most photo labs without affecting the development bath.
Compatibility with cameras and formats
The Cyberpunk 800T is designed for 35mm cameras and has a DX code that automatically optimizes the exposure settings of many cameras. Whether Minolta, Olympus, Nikon, Leica or Konica – the film is compatible with a wide range of cameras as long as they are designed for the 35mm format.
Cyberpunk offers the VISION3 500T under various product names, which mainly differ in their DX coding. Alternatively, there are similar offers from other providers who also make the Kodak VISION3 500T accessible to photography enthusiasts.
