The Carena Power Zoom is a snapshot camera. It was presented by Carena in the 90s and built in China. It was sold by the photo retailer Photo Porst in Germany.
The lens of the Carena Power Zoom is fixed and is called “Power Zoom Lens 28-52mm”. The 35mm camera is equipped with autofocus. The zoom range is from 28 mm to 52 mm. The 28 mm is quite unusual for this type of compact camera, as it is usually 35 mm in the wide-angle range.
An exposure meter has been built into the Carena Power Zoom. The exposure settings are set automatically by the camera. For photographing with little available light there is a built-in flash, this provides clear shots.
Films for the Carena Power Zoom
The Carena Power Zoom is equipped with 35mm films. These are still easy to get today and are still being developed. For black and white images, you can reach for the Ilford HP5*. For color images, the Kodak Ultramax 400* is an option.
The exposure area of the camera is 24mm x 36mm, so about 36 images fit on a roll of film. The film transport and threading of the material is motorized. The camera rewinds to the next frame after each release and you can take another picture with the camera.
The Carena Power Zoom is no longer in production. The original price was around 80 D-Mark. Today, with a little luck, you can get one for a few Euros. The low demand for this kind of cameras and the high existing number of pieces push the price down.
