The Samsung Kenox GX-1, produced between 1997 and 2002, represents a unique product in the South Korean technology giant's portfolio as it is the only SLR camera from this brand. This model, which is known in the international market as "Samsung SR 4000".
The photo camera, which operates in a 35mm format, allows users to change lenses as desired. It is equipped with a Samsung MF bayonet, which is very similar to the Minolta AF bayonet. The most common lenses included include the Schneider-Kreuznach Xenon 50mm 1:1.4, as well as the additional options of 28-70mm 1:3.5-4.5 and 70-210mm 1:4-5.6. The integrated autofocus makes focusing easier.
The inclusion of a light meter in the device makes it easier to determine the correct exposure, adapting to films with a sensitivity of ISO 25 to ISO 5000. This involves measuring the exposure through the lens, a process known as TTL.
The Samsung Kenox GX-1 offers four different exposure modes to choose from: aperture automatic, aperture automatic, program automatic and manual mode. It offers a variety of shutter speeds ranging from 1/4000s to 30 seconds. For taking photos in suboptimal lighting conditions, there is an integrated flash that has a range of up to 3 meters at ISO 100. In addition, an external flash unit can be connected to the hot shoe provided.
Additional features include a thread on the underside of the camera housing that allows a tripod to be attached. A self-timer that offers the option to take one or two shots in a row increases shooting flexibility.
With dimensions of 14.2 x 6.1 x 9.1 cm and a weight of 410 grams, the camera is compact and light. Two CR2 batteries serve as the energy source, ensuring a reliable energy supply.
Films for the Samsung Kenox GX-1
The Samsung Kenox GX-1 uses 35mm film to capture images, which, despite the digital age, are easily available and can be developed in most photo laboratories. The images are captured on a negative measuring 24 mm x 36 mm.
For black and white images, the AgfaPhoto APX 100* is a good choice, while for color images the Kodak Ultramax 400* can be considered. The latter is a color negative film developed using the widely used C-41 process, a service offered in many German drugstore chains.
