The Samsung ECX 1 is a snapshot camera. The 35mm camera was designed by the F.A. Porsche design studio and produced by Samsung. It is the predecessor of the Samsung ECX 2. The ECX 1 was also sold under the name "Kenox FX-4".
The 35mm camera comes with a fixed zoom lens. The manufacturer's name of the lens is "Samsung Zoom Lens 38-140 mm Auto Macro". The lens has a zoom range of 38 mm - 140 mm and is composed of eleven elements in nine groups. Focusing is facilitated by a built-in infrared autofocus. The closest focusing distance is 60 cm in macro mode at 38 mm.
The 35 mm camera has a built-in light meter. It can be used to set the exposure for film with a sensitivity of ISO 50 to ISO 3200. The film speed is determined via the DX code on the film cartridge. The Samsung ECX 1 has a program automatic. The photographer cannot select the aperture and exposure time. Exposure can be corrected in 0.5 EV increments (± 3EV).
The central shutter supports exposure times from 1/400 s to 1/3 s. The Bulb mode allows long exposures from 1 second to 60 seconds.
A special feature of the camera is the panorama mode. In this, the aspect ratio (13 x 36 mm) of the captured images changes. The panorama look is achieved by two inserted bars. So, in principle, you can also take a picture normally and crop the images later.
The Samsung ECX 1 comes with a built-in flash. This has a range of up to 6 meters, depending on the focal length. The recharge time is between 1 and 3 seconds.
The dimensions of the 35mm camera are 14.9 x 8.3 x 7.4 cm. At the same time, it weighs 450 grams. The power source of the 35mm camera are two CR 123A battery (eBay / Amazon*). To save power, the Samsung automatically turns off after 3 minutes of non-use.
The self-timer can take two pictures in a row if desired.
Films for the Samsung ECX 1
The Samsung ECX 1 is a film camera and is loaded with 35mm film. There is still a good selection of material for color and black and white images for this film format. A nice film for color images is the Kodak Portra 160* and for black and white images the Ilford XP2 Super*.
The development of the color negative film is done in the C-41 development process. This development process is performed by all photo labs that offer development of 35mm film. Developing a 35mm color film is possible, for example, at most drugstore chains in Germany.
