The color film is designed for development in the C-41 process. This development process is available at almost every photo lab. The black and white film must be processed in a black and white developer. If you do this yourself at home, you have full control over the results.
The film is automatically rewound by the camera. So no problems when photographing in water.
A self-timer is built into the Nikon L35 AW AF. Power is supplied by two AA batteries (eBay / Amazon*). Through the AA batteries, the camera, light meter and flash are supplied by power.
