The Nikon AF3 is a snapshot camera. The model of the Japanese manufacturer was introduced in 1987. It is part of the L-series. The model was also sold as Nikon AF3 One Touch.
The lens of the photo camera is fixed. The focal length is unchangeable and is 35 mm. The largest available aperture is f/2.8. Focusing is facilitated by a built-in autofocus. The closest focusing distance is 45 cm. So the camera is also suitable for macro photography.
The 35mm camera has a built-in light meter. The Nikon AF3 has an automatic exposure control and sets aperture and exposure time automatically. The sensitivity of the film is read out via the DX code.
There is a built-in flash for taking pictures in low light. The flash adjusts its output when the distance is less than 70 cm. It can also be switched off if desired. A CR-P2 battery (eBay / Amazon*) provides the power supply.
The 35mm camera comes with a thread for a tripod. A self-timer is also built in. The exposure area of the camera is 24 mm x 36 mm. This means that at least 36 pictures fit onto a 35 mm film. The Nikon AF3 automatically transports the film onward.
Films for the Nikon AF3
The Nikon AF3 is an analogue camera and needs to be equipped with 35mm film. Films of this format are still easy to get today and are still being developed. For color shots there is the Fujifilm Superia 400*. One way to get black-and-white images is the AgfaPhoto APX 400*.
The colour film is developed in the C-41 process. This development process is carried out by all photo laboratories that offer the development of 35mm film. The development of black and white film must be carried out in a developer suitable for this type of film.
The 35mm camera is no longer in production. The prices for the Nikon AF3 differ depending on the condition. The value ranges from 70 to 150 Euro.
Nikon AD3
The Nikon AD3 has the same design and functions. However, this model still offers the possibility of exposing the moment of the shot. The "AD" stands for Auto Date.
