The Lomomatic 110 is a pocket film camera from Lomography. It was launched in March 2024. After the Fisheye Baby 110 and the Diana Baby 110, it is the third camera for the compact film format. Two variants were presented at the launch, the Metal and the Golden Gate.
The design of the camera is reminiscent of the Ritch-Ratsch models from Agfa and Co. Thanks to the small film format, it is very compact and fits in a trouser pocket.
Features of the camera
The camera comes with a Minitar CX 23mm f/2.8 lens. The lens cannot be replaced and no filters can be attached. The focal length makes it suitable for snapshots. The lenses are made of glass and, according to Lomography, should deliver sharp results.
The focus is set manually. Different distances can be selected using a slider. You can choose between 0.8 m, 1.5 m, 3 m and infinity. There is no rangefinder, the distance to the subject must be estimated.
Unlike many other pocket film cameras, this model has an exposure meter. The Lomomatic 110 supports films with a sensitivity of ISO 100, 200 and 400. The aperture can be selected via a switch. There is a choice of f/2.8 and f/5.6. The camera technology then automatically selects the exposure time. You can choose between values of 1/250 second and 30 seconds.
There is a bulb mode for fans of long exposures. Here the shutter can be opened for a variable duration. However, the maximum is 30 seconds. Another option for creative images is the multiple exposure mode. Here, a frame can be exposed several times. This can result in very interesting image compositions. This mode can only be found on a few other pocket film cameras.
A tripod cannot be connected to the camera. However, there is a connection option for a hand strap.
If desired, an external flash can be connected to the camera. There is a suitable model for the Lomomatic for this purpose. This is attached to the side of the camera. A slot allows you to simply slide small colour foils in front of the flash to colour the pictures.
There is no self-timer. Nor can a cable release be connected to the Lomomatic 110.
A battery is required for the light meter. This requires a CR2 battery (eBay / Amazon*). This type of battery is easy to obtain on the Internet.
Films for the Lomomatic 110
Of course, films are also needed for the Lomomatic 110. According to the instructions, pocket films are required for this model. These are also sold under the name "110 films".
This film format is significantly smaller than the normal 35 mm films. The film material is in an elongated plastic cassette. The film format was not as successful as medium format or 35 mm format. As a result, film production was temporarily discontinued. Today, Lomography once again offers some films for this format.
A good film to start with is the Lomography Tiger 110*. This film is a colour negative film. It delivers solid results and is forgiving of slight exposure errors. Lomography also offers more experimental colour films and a black and white film.
Development of the films
This film is developed using the C-41 process. This development process is offered by most photo labs, of which there are fortunately still a few. The film format is somewhat more problematic. Not all labs offer processing of pocket films. For this reason, you should enquire with the lab beforehand.
Of course, it is also possible to develop the film in your own laboratory. The right accessories and chemicals can be purchased online. If the film format is used frequently, this is also recommended in terms of cost.
The user of the camera must wind the film to the next image themselves, as the camera does not have an automatic motor.
