Lomo

Lomo is a camera manufacturer from Russia.

The company was founded in 1914 in Saint Petersburg (then still Petrograd). The first cameras were not produced until 1930, before that they developed optical devices for the army.

The most famous Lomo camera is the LC-A (Lomo Kompakt Automat). It was the starting point of the Lomography movement.

But also the Smena or Lubitel series comes from the camera forge. Besides photo cameras, Lomo also produced film cameras. However, Lomo’s main business was not cameras, but other optical devices, such as microscopes or telescopes.

Lomo is an abbreviation of Leningradskoye Optiko Mechanicheskoye Obyedinenie (Ленинградское оптико-механическое объединение).
