Canon

Today, Canon is one of the largest producers of digital cameras.

However, the company, founded in 1937 and headquartered in Tokyo, Japan, can also look back on a long history of analog cameras. Among others, the F series, A series, T series or the EOS cameras.

Canon is a Japanese multinational corporation specializing in the manufacture of imaging and optical products, which include cameras. The company was founded in 1933 as Seiki Kōgaku Kenkyūjo (Precision Optical Industry Co., Ltd.) by Takeshi Mitarai, Goro Yoshida, Saburo Uchida, Takeo Maeda and Tsuneji Rikagaku Kenkyūjo (Optical Research Laboratory).

In 1934, the company developed the first Japanese 35mm camera with a plano shutter, the Kwanon. The Kwanon was based on the Leica design and was initially produced in limited numbers as a prototype for testing purposes. In 1947, the company officially changed its name to Canon Camera Co, Inc.

Over the years, Canon has continued to develop new camera technologies and has become one of the world’s leading camera manufacturers. Today, the company offers a wide range of cameras that include digital SLRs, mirrorless cameras, and compact cameras, as well as a variety of lenses and other imaging products.
