The Polaroid Popcam is a camera from Polaroid. It is an instant camera. The model is based on the Polaroid One Step (rounded corners).

The body of the camera is black and made of plastic. Next to the flash is a blue area with two cartoon flowers. The area around the lens is also dark blue. To the left of the lens is a small cartoon train.

The Polaroid Popcam is extremely user-friendly. Most of the settings options found on other types of cameras have been omitted. The ease of use allows it to be used on many occasions. If you are planning a wedding or a party, the camera is a good choice for taking pictures. However, it is also a lot of fun to use on vacation.

The basic exposure settings cannot be changed. The exposure time cannot be changed. You also can’t choose the aperture value yourself. It is not possible to change the lens. It has a fixed focal length. Many of today’s cameras have a zoom function. This function is not present on this model. Instead, you just have to approach the subject with the camera. For sharp images, a minimum distance of 60 cm from the subject should be maintained. For this, however, the close-up lens must be pushed in front of the optics.

The instant camera also includes a built-in flash. When the shutter release is pressed, it is automatically activated. The flash ensures decent photos even in unfavorable lighting conditions.

Films for the Polaroid Popcam

Of course, films are also needed for the instant camera. The original film material from the 1990s is no longer manufactured. However, since 2010 a new company has been producing suitable film material again.

Black and white and color films are available for the 600 format. The Polaroid Color Film for 600* is the instant film for color photos. Photographers who prefer black and white photography opt for the Polaroid B&W Film for 600*. Both films can deliver good results in tests.

There are eight photos in one film cassette. The film material is very sensitive to light and should therefore not come into contact with light before the actual exposure. The unexposed film material should be stored in a cool and dry place.

Following the standard, an image is 10.8 x 8.8 cm. The recorded scene can be found on an area of 7.7 by 7.7 cm. The remaining area is filled by a white area. Editions with multicolored frames are also available.

Batteries

What kind of batteries do you need for the Polaroid camera? In this type of camera, the battery is found in the film cassette. The disposable battery supplies power to the camera with flash. So changing the film is also changing the power source. It is the only power source that the camera requires.

If the camera with film inside has not been used for a long period of time, this can lead to self-discharge of the battery. Of course, without enough power, the camera will stop working. To do this, simply remove the photo film and replace it with new film stock.

In what way to take pictures with the instant camera? A little guide on how the camera works.

The first step is to insert the film. To do this, slide the slider on the side forward and open the film door. Now the cassette with the film material can be inserted. Then the flap can be closed again. The camera now removes the protective film from the film.

Now it is possible to start taking pictures. To do this, press the subject with the camera and press the release button. The drive inside the housing transports the image out of the film cassette. In the process, it passes through two image rollers that distribute the developing chemicals onto the image. After a few minutes, the development process is complete and you can view the image.

If you can’t find the camera, you can use other options. Here, for example, the Polaroid Sun 660* and Polaroid Job Pro* come to mind. These models are either functionally identical or offer a similar range of features. The Polaroid cameras are also for the 600 format.
