The Canon FP is a 35mm camera. It belongs to the group of SLR cameras and was introduced by the Japanese camera manufacturer in the fall of 1964.
The range of functions is almost identical to the Canon FX, which was introduced in the same year. In order to lower the price of the FP, the built-in light meter was omitted. The price difference between the two models was around 7000 yen at the time.
The lenses of the Canon FP can be interchanged. Lenses with a Canon FL bayonet are usable with the camera. In most cases, you'll encounter the Canon FL 50mm f/1.8 on the camera. There is no autofocus function on the Canon FP.
The Canon FP does not have a built-in exposure meter. To know which exposure time and aperture to set, it is therefore advisable to use an external light meter.
The fastest shutter speed is 1/1000 s. Full control over the length of the exposure is available in Bulb mode. The use of a flash is possible via the PC flash socket. A cold shoe is also available.
A tripod can be connected to the Canon FP. A cable release can also be used with the camera. Additionally, the self-timer can be used for taking pictures.
The Canon FP has a size of 14.1 x 9 x 8.3 cm. A power source is not needed for taking pictures, as there is no light meter on this model and the camera is otherwise mechanical.
Films for the Canon FP
Photographic films are exposed in the Canon FP, more precisely 35mm films. 35mm films are still made by various producers. A nice film for color pictures is the Fujifilm Superia 400* and for black and white pictures the Ilford Delta 100*.
