The Yumica RFX-1 is a Yumica brand camera. It is a mixture of SLR and point and shoot. It is very similar to the Great Wall PF-1.
The camera comes with a fixed focal length. The lens has a maximum aperture of f/2.8 and the focal length is 40 mm. The designation “Yumica 1:2.8 f=40mm” decorates the lens. The lens is focused manually. The Yumica RFX-1 does not have an autofocus. The closest focusing distance is 90 cm.
The Yumica RFX-1 has a built-in light meter. It is designed for films from ISO 100 to ISO 400. The exposure is measured by a metering cell above the lens. The f-number can be freely selected on the Yumica RFX-1. The exposure time, on the other hand, is unchangeable. A flash is built in for pictures in low light. The Yumica RFX-1 has a cable release and a tripod thread.
With a size of 14.4 x 8.7 x 7.5 cm the Yumica RFX-1 weighs 348 grams. Power is supplied by two AA batteries (eBay / Amazon*).
Films for the Yumica RFX-1
Which films are required for the Yumica RFX-1? You have to buy 35mm film for the camera. 35mm films are still produced today and are quite easy to get. One possible film for color photography is Kodak Gold 200*. A possibility for black and white images is the Kodak T-Max 400*.
The colour negative film is developed in the C-41 development process. C-41 films are developed by almost all photographic laboratories. For example, you can hand in your films at most drugstore chains in Germany.
With the size of the exposure area, a normal film (135-36) usually holds 36 photos. To the next picture the film is wound manually with a wheel.

The shutter speed is not “fixed” but varies with the aperture. It runs from 1/60th – 1/750th of a second (as for the Fujica STF) but it cannot be varied by the operator. The Yumica SRF (made in Hong Kong) preceded the Great Wall PF-1 (made in P.R. China). It has an exposure ring calibrated to F22 where the Great Wall is calibrated to F16
