The Revue AW600 / Revue AW 600 is a compact camera. It was sold in Germany by Foto Quelle. It is based on the Chinon Splash AF. The AW in the name could stand for All Weather.
With its eye-catching appearance, characterized by rubber seals around the lens and film area, it appears very durable. It could easily be mistaken for an underwater camera. However, it should be made clear that although it is splash-proof, it was not designed for underwater use. They don’t mind light rain or the occasional splash, but diving should be avoided.
At the heart of the camera is a 35mm lens composed of three elements in three groups, with a maximum aperture of f/3.9. The focus is set automatically by an autofocus system. It can set distances from 1.3 meters to infinity.
The camera uses a programmed electronic shutter and moves in a speed range of 1/90 to 1/410 seconds, making it ideal for well-lit environments.
Despite a modest guide number of 10, the built-in flash does a remarkable job, especially for close-up shots, and has a range of 1.3 to 3.5 meters.
DX-coded film is predestined for exposure metering, with the camera supporting ISO values from 100 to 1000. Without DX encoding, ISO 100 is used as the default.
Powered by two AA batteries (eBay / Amazon*), the Revue compact camera is an ideal travel companion. These batteries are mainly required for the operation of the flash and the automatic film transport.
Film recommendations for the Revue AW600
The Revue AW600 is designed for the use of 35mm films. These films are still available and can be developed without any problems. Films with ISO values between 100 and 1000, especially the DX encoded ones, are recommended.
For color shots, the Kodak Ultramax 400* is a good choice, while the Ilford XP2 Super* is good for black and white images. Both films are suitable for everyday scenarios and have proven themselves in various tests. Of course there are also films from Fujifilm, Foma or Lomography that can be used with the camera.
