Digital photo frames have long been glowing power guzzlers that, with their visible cables, significantly disturbed the coziness on the dresser. The compact Reflection Frame 10 Inch instead relies on a color E-Ink panel that makes photographs look like freshly printed paper. Whether the handy version in dark walnut wood or modern black has what it takes to become the new centerpiece of the living room is shown in this first impression.

Some time ago, I already took a closer look at the larger version with a 13.3-inch diagonal and was quite taken with the approach. Hanging digital art or your own photos on the wall without constantly noticing a glowing screen in the corner of your eye simply has charm.
The manufacturer specializes in frames that use E-Ink's Spectra 6 technology and deliberately do without complex operating systems. While the large versions were primarily designed for walls, the more compact 10-inch model now closes the gap for smaller surfaces. The company offers the frames in various housing variants, including warm walnut wood and a simple black version with softly rounded edges.

Technical Specifications
At the heart of the picture frame is a 10-inch color display based on electronic paper. With a resolution of 1200 by 1600 pixels, the display achieves a pixel density of around 200 pixels per inch. Compared to the larger 13.3-inch model, which reaches about 150 pixels per inch at the same resolution, the image here is noticeably sharper. Fine details in faces or delicate structures in landscape shots therefore appear much clearer and actually remind one of a classic matte photo print.
The necessary energy is provided by a permanently installed lithium-ion battery with a capacity of 5000 milliampere-hours. Since E-Ink technology consumes no energy at all in standby mode, the battery lasts for months with moderate use. Even with several image changes per day, the device only rarely needs to be connected to the charger.
Charging is done modernly via a USB-C port on the back of the device, which also features buttons for reset and clearing the screen content, as well as small status LEDs. For wall mounting, brackets for horizontal and vertical orientation are integrated on the back.

Functions
The handling of the frame is one of its most pleasant features. Where with many competing products you have to navigate through a Wi-Fi menu, enter passwords, or create user accounts, the Reflection Frame works completely uncomplicated. You load the appropriate app onto your smartphone, select the desired image, adjust the crop, and simply hold the mobile phone to the contact surface on the front of the frame. The transfer runs entirely via NFC, i.e., near-field communication. There is a bit more about the app in the report on the larger version.
This simple principle ensures that even people without much technical knowledge can upload a new photo within seconds. You don't have to initiate Bluetooth pairing or get annoyed when your home router fails again. The image is transferred, the display builds up the color particles in several horizontal waves, and then remains static. The refresh process takes a few moments but is fascinating to watch, as the image gradually develops like a Polaroid print.

A small drawback, however, appears with the stand on the back. This fold-out stand is permanently integrated and unfortunately only designed for landscape format. If you want to set up the frame in portrait format, for example for a classic portrait photo of the grandchildren.
Here, a repositionable stand or an additional second stand would have been a sensible solution, which the manufacturer hopefully considers in future revisions. On the wall, the frame can be mounted in both orientations thanks to two hanging points, but on the table you are limited to landscape formats unless you want to resort to a separate bookend.

Also good to know is the fact that there is no automatic slideshow. You cannot insert a memory card from which images are played continuously, and you cannot send photos to the device remotely over the internet. The transfer only works locally, directly at the frame. So if you want to conjure a digital postcard from your vacation onto the nightstand of those who stayed home, you need a different solution.

In terms of image quality, the Spectra 6 panel performs decently. Skin tones appear pleasantly natural, and color areas have good saturation. However, the display noticeably benefits if you slightly brighten the source photo and slightly increase the contrast in the app before transferring. Deep blacks sometimes tend to have a slight blue tint, which is due to the technology but hardly harms the harmonious overall impression in the living space.
Conclusion
The Reflection Frame 10 Inch is a thoughtful addition for anyone who wants to present their photographic works in everyday life without being bothered by a flickering screen. E-Ink technology shows its known advantages here, as you don't have to worry about annoying power cables or constant recharging. The battery is only used when you upload a new image, allowing the frame to simply stand wherever it looks best.
In terms of dimensions, the 10-inch format is ideal for the desk, a small shelf, or the sideboard in the hallway. Even in combination with the large frame, the smaller model makes a nice impression. If you hang the compact frame completely alone on a large white wall, it can quickly look a bit lost. In such cases, a gallery of several frames is a good option, or even more charming, a combination with real paper prints. For example, you could equip the family wall with framed paper photos and place the Reflection Frame in the middle. On it, you can regularly upload the latest picture of the little ones, while older memories remain as paper images. For grandparents who are not tech-savvy, this is an excellent thing, as you can simply hold your smartphone to the frame during a visit and update the image. If the manufacturer now also makes the stand suitable for portrait formats, there is little room for criticism.
